Matt - Day 60 - PAP Upper

Love it.  Did all the moves.  Usually 4 towel pull-ups then would do for more on the bar.  The towel grip hurts!  The plank-on-med-ball moves are insane!  I never got through full time on those - but would only take quick breaks.

So I mentioned that I started watching the diet closer like 3-4 weeks ago.  I'm not sure if its that or more that we're on Day 60 and we're just getting HARD but I have tons of energy these days.  I love it. Feeling like I'm gonna go destroy this tough mudder next weekend.

Brought!

Matt - Day 59 - PAP Lower

Wooooooo!  Now that's a workout.  I pushed this pretty hard - love the burn.  First time I felt like I really got my @$$ kicked in a while.  I think I'm gonna like the PAP weeks.

I did full counts on everything - just had to modify the first step-up move because I didn't have anything to step-up on.  Those side balances are killer!  but I think I'm starting on them at a much better point than our first time through.

Matt - Day 58 - Chest + Back +Balance

So here's the plan. We actually finished 4 weeks on the second phase now.  So I'm ready to move to the next phase.  I wanted to get one more chest workout in though and I wasn't fully back to form so I went for it and gonna start the week 2 days late.  I'm gonna start in on PAP Lower for Day 59 and do 2 weeks - then Mudder - then on off week of yoga/phase 1 stuff then 2 more weeks of PAP which should take me to 90 days.

I'm jealous of your climbing.  I have a buddy who might start going so I could be getting back into it soon.  Cold in NJ? What is this cold you speak of?  Its 60s here :-)

Matt - Day 57 - Yoga

So I'm a little off and just getting back so started back in on the days I missed.  Yoga was good.  Did it with the video and full push-ups.  Nice to be back.

Matt Day 54-56 Sick

I got a cold and ended up taking 3 days off (one was supposed to be rest but still).  I friggin hate taking days off!  I could totally feel it by the third day. Argh!

John Day 53 - Shoulders + Arms & X2 Abs Ripper

This workout went well - kept up to the numbers from the week which I am happy with the number as I am still feeling a bit sore from the intense day at they gym before. Kept the weights at the 25 for most of the workout and 5 lbs for the shoulder movements.  Was good and pumped at the end.  And the ab ripper added the nice full body workout.. Switching it up and going back to the climbing gym tomorrow instead of friday this week.  See if i'm up to yoga or maybe will move the yoga to sat....

So this is the 3rd week - how many are we going to do of this phase vs phase 3? Just curious I'd be good at whichever your thinking....

Yeah I'm back!

John Day 52 - Relaxing at the Gym again...

So this relaxing day was at the climbing gym again. Signed up for the everest challenge again... (1,000 routes - each at 30 ft = +/- 30,000 Ft ~ Everest...)  So neither I nor my climbing friend had climbed with any regularity so we were mostly doing 5.8 again... but that was getting to easy really fast so we made it more intense... no matching or switching feet... This can be pretty hard to maintain on some of the easier climbs that are designed for you to do both... Raised this to 5.9 for the last half of the climbs so got a really big pump at the end... I am having to keep myself from trying to muscle through to concentrate on the technique again...which is a good problem to have.

John Day 51 - Plyoside

Eh - Went well nothing much to report - probably one of the easier workouts now... I so wanted to also run outside but the temp was in the teens brrrr... grr.. I thought I moved away from this... Oh well

John Day 50 - Chest + Back + Ab Ripper

This one is becoming my fav of this phase I think... Ok not as many lever as others and not the greatest form but getting very close. Still loving that I can get the 4 balls pushups fully legit without wall or anything. That is new this time around - was able to do 14 this time in a row is sooo cool :) fell so great in doing it. Other movements were good was pretty spent by the overtime elements got only a few towel pull ups but was happy as arms were just about fatigued at that point.    It was good to do the ab ripper at the end again. Went well getting better not the best but helped to make the whole body ache.

John Day 49 - Base + Back

This was a good workout - maintained the numbers from the week before so was happy about that.  I am getting a yearning to add running to my workout routine but its been toooo frickin cold here lately. It is suppose to warm up next week so maybe I will add it sometime soon. ;)

John Day 48 - Rest @ the gym? + Ab ripper

So moved the days around a bit to allow for the gym - Had a good time climbing had been on a break for while so is feeling good at keeping more regular at it.  As to not have to do the Ab-ripper two days in a row though I did do the Ab ripper when I got back. Did well but felt like kinda cheating doing it w/o one of the workouts before. I was pretty drained from the gym but have a 20 min drive back so had a bit of break between the two... Went well though :)

John Day 47 - Yoga

Lol - Ok I am really bad at keeping this blog up...maybe phase 3 will be better?

Yoga was good. Nothing too much to report was decent nothing special but a good yoga relaxing out.

Matt - Day 53 - Shoulders + Arms + Ab Ripper

Great workout today.  I hit a bunch of PBs.

Managed a round of crazy 8s with 30s (a few breaks).  30s on the arnold. Used 50s on balance curls.  Upped it a bit on Y-T flys. And finally got 10 sets with 10#s on the 6 direction shoulder fly.

Ab Ripper was great too.  Probably the cleanest set I've done yet this round.

where you at?

Matt - Day 52 - No Rest for the Weary

I still wanted to get some legs in so I did about 30 mins of low-impact work (skaters, squat-reach etc.) and then foam rolled for 70 mins.

boom.

Matt - Day 51 - Plyo-life

Well I'm all about the modification and supplementation these days.  I went hill/stair running again.  I was wearing a fitbit that has an altimeter built in and it said i ran the equivalent of 60 flights of stairs. Not bad.  Totally gonna be ready for the mudder.

Matt - Day 50 - Chest Back Balance

Dude  - we're on day 50! Seems like this is going really fast.

Really good workout today.  Highlights include 16 on the 4-ball push-ups and 8 legit lever pull-ups (with a few breaks - but those are hard!) and 8 towel pull-ups. I still can't do any real L pull-ups but getting close just need to work harder on the abs.   I also got 6 of the impossible/possible but I had my feet farther back on the ball then they do in the demo - i still count it!

For ab ripper I switched it up again.  Annie has a Crunchless Abs video that is all standing abs moves but incorporate weights.  It didn't directly work the abs as much as I would have liked but it really worked me after the chest routine.

brought.

Matt - Day 49 - Plyo Redux?

Ok so I skipped plyo on Monday but I knew I was going running this weekend and I incorporated some leg work.  I ended up running about 40 mins - moving pretty good the whole time.  I did 6-7 sets of stairs (fairly long set - maybe 40 steps in length).  Different moves on each: quick, sideways, matching etc.  Then I ran to the back side of the park and run up and down a hill 4 times - probably 200 yards per.  Then ran home to the park by us and did sprints.   So I think I'm now fully back on program.

3 weeks until the tough mudder!!  I might be repeating this workout a few times as I start to incorporate more running.

still need to get my abs done today. will update when complete.

Matt - Day 48 - Base + Back

Did this at work - I used the lat pull down machine so I could go more reps.  I'm really liking this option.  It's kinda like using a pull-up assist (which I don't have at home).  I greatly increased on a few moves from the week before.  I modified/exchanged on some of the leg moves but really pushed.  I was dripping at the end of this one.

ran out of time and needed to get to a meeting so moving abs to sat.

Matt - Day 47 - yoga

Really good yoga this week.  I did it without the video but took my time and worked a few poses longer.  I was pretty sore the next day - and actually still feeling it on Sat.

Matt - Day 46 - Shoulders + Arms

Still in SF on weds - worked out early in the AM.  I like this one and really pushed on the moves since I had all the weights at my disposal.  I used the 45s on the first curl move and a few sets with the 25s for  crazy eights.  I wrote everything down as always but its in the other room -- soo far away.

skipped abs because my schedule is off and just did them like 12 hours before.

Oh and since I didn't point it out yet I did end up skipping plyo same as you.  I have a plan to make up for it though (see day 49 :-)

Day 45 - Chest + Back + Balance + Ab Ripper

Back to it.  I was in SF on Tuesday but the hotel had a great gym.  They even had medicine balls so I could do the 4 ball push-ups. My pull-up moves don't seem to be as far along as last time around, but I haven't been climbing at all so I'm guessing that's it.  The ab workout wasn't the best since I had taken the days off but I pushed through all the moves.

oh and congrats to us!  half way through!

Day 44 - More Rest

Ok so I ended up taking 3 days off but I could feel myself getting a cold and didn't want to push myself into it by overworking.  Incidentally, I took tons of vitamins and rested and managed not to get sick.  Hmm - alternative medicine I guess.

John Day 46 - Shoulders + Arms + Ab Ripper

Yeah..finally caught up - Ok this went well getting back into full force again.

I kept the weight at 25 for all three rounds to judge the intensity. It seemed right for this week, but might increase it for the second round next week.   The crazy eights were the most difficult I was not able to do the full 24 during the 1st & 2nd round and had to stop the workout to get it during the last 3rd round.  Overall was feeling good about it. To be back at 100% here are the numbers.

Also did the Ab Ripper - went better after doing it on Monday too.. really need to keep doing that workout to keep improving.

1.12@25   2.8@25   3.12@25   4.10@5   5.24@25   6.10@5   7.12@25
8.12@25   9.8@25  10.12@25  11.11@4  12.16@15  13.10@5  14.12@25
15.12@25  16.8@25 17.12@25  18.10@5.  19.32@25 20.10@5  21.9@25

John Day 45 - Climbing Mount Everest

Ok instead of doing the Rest & Relaxation I went to the climbing gym for over two hours. I signed up to do the "Everest Challenge" which is basically doing 1,000 top rope routes during the year...(30,000 vert. week). So did a dozen routes at the gym which after not being there for a couple weeks was pretty intense and had a good pump when I left... I have lost of some of the finesse but able to muscle through some of the harder moves better :)

John Day 44 - Chest Back + Balance + Ab Ripper

Ok I know this was suppose to be on Day 43 (Sunday) but felt it would be better to catch up on this one then to do the Plyoside workout.  It went really well the weekend off really has got me back into it.    The thing I remember from it the most was that I was able to increase my 4 ball push ups to 10! I am liking that move soo much. Was also able to do a couple impposible/possible movements, but that could still us a alot of work...

The Ab ripper was a bit harder I think because I had not done it for a few days. But was good to feel that burn again during all the moves...

John Day 42 & 43 - Flu Recovery

Took the weekend off to totally recover from the flu/cold... It seemed to really help. I did sleep in till around noon both days which I haven't done since college... So I guess I needed it...

John Day 41 - Base + Back + Ab Ripper

Well I recorded this one on the app - but I can't figure out how to get the numbers back out after the week is done... Hmmm will post if I figure it out at some point. I remember it went pretty well was starting to feel a bit better again.

John Day 40 - Yoga

Ok - 1 week my bad I shouldn't have let it go this long... My Really Bad... Opps well this went well last week I was still feeling not fully back again but was a good Ying / Yang  thing.

Matt - Day 43 Rest

So I woke up on Sunday feeling a little off.  I decided to rest again and double down on the vitamins in hopes of heading this off.  I'm feeling ok today so hopefully I'll be good to go.

Did an hour of foam rolling - still a lot of hot spots.  I gotta kick up the pace on the foam rolling.

Also - its my B-day today (Monday 14th)  I'm friggen old.  but still doing p90 just like Tony!

Matt - Day 42 Rest

Full day off - though went for a good long walk with Sawyer and Annie.

Matt - Day 41 Base + Back

So i did this one at work and really liked it.  I used the pull-up machine instead of straight pullups and was able to push a little harder using a slightly lower weight.  I felt I got a better workout that way.  Might do it again next week.

Matt - Day 40 - yoga

I'm a few days behind again but wanted to catch up.

Yoga was good - I was hurting from the eariler workouts.  Nothing big to report - able to get deeper on a few moves.

Matt - Day 39 - Shoulders + Arms

Good increases this week.  I used the kettlbell (30lb) on the overhead tricep, and did a combo move on the balance curls/ arnold press.  Did the full 32 @ 20lbs for the crazy eight.

Hope you are feeling better.  I don't want to get too far ahead of you :-)
I was looking at the kettlewerx workout for after p90 - but I haven't done much research yet - I'll let you know.  Can you believe we are 39 days in already?  Thats 39 days of being awesome while urban slacks and eats an extra helping of dessert!  haha.  Oh and I've kicked up the diet a notch this past week.  I've definitely realized you can't get cut no matter how much you workout if you eat pizza and nachos every other day.  Sigh.

Matt - Day 38 Rest

Hour of foam rolling and I actually did a mini cardio workout.  We started this group fit-bit competition at work and I needed to make sure I got 10k steps for the day.  Oh yeah - I'll be winning that!

Matt - Day 37 - Plyocide

Crushed this one.  I pushed hard and felt better than usual - its a good thing cuz the mudder is a month away and I'm gonna need the cardio.

Matt - Day 36 - Chest+Back+Balance

For some reason I sucked at this workout. The pull-up moves were a little better but I didn't have much balance on the med balls.  It was really strange and I was getting frustrated.  I was falling on the 4 ball, the swimmer, and the side balance.  Maybe the earth was out of orbit??

Ab ripper was solid - definitely feeling the stabilizers building.

Matt Day 35 Rest

Ouch - I'm a little behind.  I think I foam rolled for a while otherwise took a full day off.

John Day 39 - X2 Shoulders and Arms

Well definitely still on the mends but a good way back from feeling so sick... So this workout when surprisingly well. I used the 25 barbells on most of the workout as I haven't found back all the plates I've stored around the apt yet... But it seemed to be the right weight for keeping the same...a little light the first round just about right the second round and killer the third round... and just to get back into the game although not the best round here are the #s;

1. 13@ 25    2. 8@25    3.13@25    4.10@5   5.24@25    6.11@5    7.9@25
8. 12@25    9.8@25      10.10@25   11.10@5   12. 32@25   13.12@5   14.12@25
15.8@25    16.8@25     17.8@25     18.8@5     19.24@25    20.12@5   21.8@25

And no the X2 Ab Ripper was not happening tonight... Not that recovered yet.

John Day 38 Plyo-FLU

Uggh - thought I was over the flu...turns out not so much... I had zero energy last night - barely ate dinner then went to bed very early,  although didn't fall asleep too quickly in that I was coughing a bit but oh well the greater then normal hours of sleep seemed to help in that felt better the next morning...

John Day 37 - Chest + Back + Balance & X2 Ab Ripper

Ok getting back into it... No not back to 100% yet but not bad either... One amazing thing is that I was finally able to do the 4 ball push up for 9 in a row! Never got that far before, maybe the slow down of the cold helped to relax and over stabilize to do this.  The rest of the work out was average or maybe slightly below but I don't really care as I still am on a small high from being able to do the 9 4 ball push ups so encouraged with myself. I couldn't do more then 1 or 2 in a row before.... So cool. Will start posting the numbers also again soon...

So what are you doing for the kettle ball workout. I received gift card to a local sports store for xmas and am debating on what to spend it on...

John Day 36 - Rest Day 2 + foam rolling

Wasn't feeling much better on Sunday - Had some chicken soup for lunch and felt good enough to do some foam rolling but not much more... Will just move Day 1 & 2 of this week out with the day 3 rest... This was also why I wasn't posting this weekend.

John Day 35 - Rest

Day one of the cold - slept slept some more and did a little more sleeping... Such a nice way to spend the weekend... ;(

John Day 34 - Base + Black & Ab Ripper

So I did this one but at the end after the Ab ripper wasn't feeling to good thought maybe I had just gone a little harder then I had thought...but turned out it was the beginning of a cold that my nephew gave me as a parting gift from the holidays...  The number were OK but by the end was totally dead. So slept well that night but didn't really get out of bed on Saturday.

John - Day 33 - Yoga

Was a few days ago but this was a good workout. Its getting easier but still a good workout. Ok yeah its been awhile so don't remember that much more ;)

Friday, January 4, 2013

Matt - Day 34 Base+Back

This one suuuuucks.  It's a combo plyoside/ a million pull-ups.  Plus I did it in the morning before work which make the jump moves a little iffy.  I will get back to posting the full numbers soon. They are soo weak since moving to phase 2  - that I am taking a practice week.  I think I maxed at 8 pull-ups for any single move and most were like 4 real ones plus some modified.  The plyo stuff was decent - but I didn't do full jack knee tucks.  rest day tomorrow.

oh and golf.  I've been playing a lot - trying to improve from bad to ok.  I thought we could try to play in MN or out here.... :-)

Matt - Day 33 - yoga

Did this while watching 3 episodes of How I Met Your Mother on Netflix.  That show is hilarious but it does take away a little to not be completely focused.  Nothing major to report other than I felt really limber - finally recovered from the chest/back I guess.

Matt - Day 32 - shoulders + arms

So I think this is the easiest of all p90x2 workouts - or maybe I just need to push harder.  I was still dead sore from chest so I probably took it a little easy.  I don't have the numbers with me but I did get to incorporate my new 30lb kettleball on some moves.  Couldn't quite get all 32x with 20# on the crazy 8s but I got to 28 on the last round.  Will definitely be there next week.

John Day 32 - Shoulders + Arms & X2 Ripper

I am remembering now why I liked the 2nd phase more. I liked the increased intensity of these workouts. It was a little boring do the same thing 3 times but was also good. I changed up the weights a fair amount as I started light then when heavier on 2nd then back down a bit on the last set.

I also tracked it on the phone with the P90X app which they finally updated to include P90X2 at the new year - finally! So here are the numbers. I thought there might be an easy way to email to myself or something but haven't found that yet...

1.15 @ 20lbs
2.10@10#
3.12@20#
4.10@10#
5.32@20#
6.11@5#
7.16@20#

8.10@30#
9.8@30#
10.8@30#
11.10@5#
12.32@20#
13.25@0
14.12@20#

15.16@25#
16.8@25#
17.8@25#
18.8@5#
19.30@25#
20.12@5#
21.18@25#

And next yeah the X2 Ripper - 15mins of hell! - Thats all I can remember ;) - Just Kidding - it went well intense as usual but well.

Love the link a few days ago! & Hmm I might need to get those workouts too not letting you 1 up me! ;)

John Day 31 - Rest?

I guess this was a rest day 7 hrs in the car...ugh I love seeing my sister, bro-in law and nephew but uggh the drive is loooonnng.. :) - Did go for a 5k run that night though ;) Also got the urge to run.

John Day 30 - Plyoside

This was a good workout - The last one up at my sisters. It went well. Had new 12 lb medicine balls to do some of the workouts. Whew those 4 extra pounds sure do add some intensity.  It went well felt good. Only issue was that I had to cut the cool down a bit in that the in-laws came early for the new years night and I was working out in the area they would be taking over... oh well ;)

Matt - Day 31 - rest

hour plus of foam rolling.  I'm still hurting from chest+back+balance routine!!

also - guess who got the vsculpt and shoulder/tri dvds!  uh oh! I might be kicking it up a notch in the next few weeks!
